My father trained race horses and as a teenager I helped in the stables and would watch the races. My favorite memory is when people would throw away their losing tickets when the winner was declared -- and then there was a challenge. When the challenge was successful I would go around picking up all the thrown away tickets and often would find new winner tickets which I got an adult to cash in for me.
