The Epsom Derby

After the Grand National, the Epsom Derby is probably the best and most iconic horse racing event on English soil. It is shorter and has no jumps but this does not deter those taking part in making this a great spectacle for all viewers!

The most recent winner of June 2009 was "Sea The Stars" who became the favoutire after much betting on "Fame And Glory". The race has produce such classic winners like "New Approach" in 2008, "Shergar" in 1981 and "Nijinsky II" in 1970.

This really is a race for classic horses won by classic horses and it will always remain that way.

All horses entered into this race must be at 3 years old, and, along with the Derby, are usually raced in the St.Leger and Oaks.

2nd to that of the St. Leger in Doncaster the Epsom Derby is the eldest of the classics making this race exactly that - a classic. Lestor Piggott has won this event an incredible 9 times, and when you look at those that have also won this race you can see that no luck is involved, you really do have to give it everything and Lestor did just that.

Memory of T. Grays - UK

I decided to back Rip Van Winkel in this race as I had had some luck with him before. Wrong move as Sea The Stars just romped home, backed this chap at Sandown too, same result!
